Le Sacre du Printemps – Suite Baloise builds an extraordinary bridge between Igor Stravinsky’s world-famous ballet composition and the folk dance of the Basel region.

A group of six dancers from different backgrounds working and living in Basel explore the concept of the folk dance scene and create a translation into the here and now.

They are inspired by different forms - such as round dances and May dances. The movement research is accompanied musically by Stravinsky's orchestral composition. The choreography reminds and warns the audience of the cultural roots of local dance, which are easily forgotten in the spotlight of contemporary life. Le Sacre du Printemps - Suite Baloise aims to present scenes and ideas of how the current zeitgeist collides with history. Energetic images and detailed kinetic sculptures go hand in hand with the piercing sounds of the large orchestra. The project, under the direction of Kiriakos Hadjiioannous, will conclude the 100-year celebrations of Le Sacre du printemps and adds another choreography to the more than 180 existing ones. The Edition baloise.
